Dan Photos

Here's a couple of very rare Dan photos from June 4, 1984, in Peoria. Many thanks to my fellow Fogelberg friend, Jim Dinquel in Pekin for these great photos of Dan which were taken by Jim's brother-in-law, Fred Zwicky. Please note that these photos are copyrighted by Fred Zwicky, so please abide by his wishes not to copy them without his permission.
At the time these photographs were taken, Fred was a student at Eastern Illinois University, majoring in photo-journalism. He is now a professional photographer working at the Peoria Journal Star. Fred's work has been published nationally by the Associated Press and he has won many awards for his work. His photographic skills are apparent in these two excellent photographs!

The photos are from a charity softball game that Dan, his band and crew played against local personalities from the radio stations KZ-93 and WMBD of Peoria. The game was to raise money for the Methodist Hospital Coronary Wing in Peoria. The game was played the night before his June 5, 1984 show at the Civic Center in Peoria. Fred brought his camera gear to the game and, at one point, just walked down to the gate and on to the field.

Nobody stopped or questioned him! He looked like a press photographer and I guess that is what they must have thought he was!

Hope you enjoy the photos. Jim says they have never been published and only about 10 or 12 people have ever seen them since they were taken. (Boy is that going to change now that they've gone world-wide on the Web!)

Here's a photo of Dan greeting fans after his show in Roanoke, VA in June 1995.

Telluride Bluegrass Festival 1993

Dan performing as the headline act at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival on Sunday, June 20, 1993. This was the 10-year anniversary of Dan's 1st appearance at the Festival which spawned his High Country Snow bluegrass album. Special guests on stage with Dan are Bela Fleck (banjo), Sam Bush (mandolin), Mark O'Connor (fiddle), Mark Schatz (upright bass). Also shown is regular band member Robert McEntee on guitar.

The following are from Dan's performance on March 12, 1976 at Texas Hall on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington while I was a student. The photos are not of great quality, but I thought they would be of interest for those that remember seeing Dan back in the early days. His backup band was Fools Gold. Take note that Dan did not yet have his famous wooded chair for his solo set!
